Abyssinian
Athletic, curious, never bored — for better and worse.
Abyssinians are the marathoners of the cat world. They climb, jump, and follow water faucets like they're paid for it. The 'ticked' tabby coat is unique. They escape at every opportunity because every opportunity looks interesting.
What makes them, them
- 6–10 lb adult; short ticked coat (each hair multi-banded).
- Athletic — vertical leaps of 1.5m are normal.
- Pyruvate kinase deficiency (PKDef) is breed-specific; DNA test available.
- Slow to mature, long-lived (12–18 years).
Safety — what actually goes wrong
- Window screens get pushed out; mesh secondary screens recommended.
- Tag mandatory — Abys escape and wander.
- PKDef test before purchase if possible.
How Boop helps Abyssinians stay home
Aby escape attempts succeed about once per quarter. Boop tag means the first scan brings them home before they've travelled 1 km.
