Boxer
Goofy, athletic, and built like a brick — but heat-sensitive.
Boxers are eternal puppies who happen to weigh 70 lb. They jump, they bounce, they bowl over toddlers — and they're brachycephalic enough that summer walks are a real consideration. Cancer rates are concerning; annual senior screenings matter.
What makes them, them
- 55–80 lb adult; short coat (still sheds).
- Brachycephalic — heat + exercise tolerance is lower than they look.
- Cardiomyopathy (boxer-specific 'BCM'), mast cell tumours, lymphoma all elevated.
- Bonds tightly to family kids — the 'nanny dog' nickname is partly earned.
Safety — what actually goes wrong
- Never leave in a car above 18°C — brachycephalic + dark coat is a worst case.
- Microchip + tag — Boxers get adopted out fast in shelters because they're charming.
- Annual echocardiogram from age 5 catches BCM early.
