Persian
Cushion-shaped, long-coated, and about as outdoorsy as a tea cosy.
Persians are bred for indoor living. The flat face means BOAS-like respiratory issues; the long coat means daily brushing or it mats into pelts that hide injury. They're indoor-only cats by design — but indoor cats escape too, especially during furniture moves and contractor visits.
What makes them, them
- 7–12 lb adult; flowing double coat.
- Brachycephalic — eye discharge is constant; daily face wipe required.
- Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) gene present in many lines — DNA-testable.
- Long-lived if managed (12–17 years).
Safety — what actually goes wrong
- Never let outside; they overheat, get matted on brambles, and lose orientation fast.
- Tag the carrier AND the collar — Persian escapes during vet visits are common.
- Daily eye/face cleaning prevents skin folds from rotting.
How Boop helps Persians stay home
Lost-mode posters generate in two taps. For an indoor Persian who escapes during a move, that 4 km poster sweep is the playbook.
