Russian Blue
Plush silver-blue coat, shy with strangers, devoted to family.
Russian Blues are reserved cats — they're shy with strangers but deeply attached to their humans. The dense double coat looks 'pure', is hypoallergenic-leaning (Fel d 1 levels are below average), and shows damage easily. Indoor-only is the breed norm.
What makes them, them
- 8–12 lb adult; double coat that stands away from the body.
- Lower Fel d 1 — better for mild cat-allergy households.
- Generally healthy; bladder stones are the watch.
- Long-lived (15–20 years).
Safety — what actually goes wrong
- Indoor only. Russian Blues don't 'come back when called' — they hide for hours.
- Microchip + tag; if they escape, they freeze in place — a tag is the difference.
- Litter hygiene matters more than for most breeds (urinary issues).
How Boop helps Russian Blues stay home
When a hiding Russian Blue is finally found by a neighbour, the Boop tag is what gets them home in under an hour.
