Samoyed
Smiling Siberian sled dog with a coat made for −60°C.
Sammies are friendly, vocal, beautiful, and built for snow. The undercoat sheds catastrophically twice a year. Heat is a real risk. They live 12–14 years.
What makes them, them
- 35–65 lb adult; double coat — undercoat sheds heavily.
- Hip dysplasia, hereditary glomerulopathy in males.
- Vocal — Samoyed talk is real.
- Strong pack drive; multi-dog homes work well.
Safety — what actually goes wrong
- Heat sensitivity above 22°C; never exercise in midday summer.
- Annual urinalysis from age 2 (males) for hereditary glomerulopathy.
- Off-leash only in enclosed areas — sled-dog wandering instinct is real.
How Boop helps Samoyeds stay home
