Shiba Inu
Independent, fox-like, and famously hard to keep on a fence.
Shibas are cat-like dogs — they self-groom, they're aloof with strangers, and they have a reliable opinion about everything. The Shiba scream is real. Recall is essentially impossible without years of training; manage the environment instead.
What makes them, them
- 17–23 lb adult; double coat sheds heavily seasonally.
- Generally healthy; allergies + patellar luxation are watchpoints.
- Lives 13–16 years.
- Strong prey drive.
Safety — what actually goes wrong
- 6 ft fences with no climb-able features. Period.
- Off-leash only in enclosed areas; ground-level Shiba escapes are common.
- Tag essential — when they get out they don't come back on their own.
How Boop helps Shiba Inus stay home
Boop's NFC + QR fallback works on the kanji-lined collars Shiba parents often choose; no extra hardware needed.
