Sphynx
Hairless, social, and surprisingly high-maintenance.
Sphynx cats aren't truly hairless — they have peach fuzz. They're warm to the touch (skin temp = body temp = 38°C), actively social, and need weekly bathing because there's no fur to absorb skin oils. They're indoor cats, period — no fur means no UV protection.
What makes them, them
- 6–12 lb adult; near-hairless, large ears, prominent cheekbones.
- Weekly bath + ear cleaning required.
- HCM rates are notable — annual cardiac screen.
- Need warmth — sweaters in winter, blanket pile year-round.
Safety — what actually goes wrong
- Sunburn risk is real — never let outdoors without shade.
- Tag breakaway collar; Sphynx skin is sensitive to chafing.
- Higher caloric needs than coated cats; obesity is rare here, underweight more common.
